Eight-year-old Finley Davies from Red Deer didn’t want presents for her birthday this year. Rather than having her friends bring toys and gifts to her birthday party, she asked everyone to bring a cash donation intended for The Dragonfly Children’s Healing Centre.
The Dragonfly Children’s Healing Centre is a division of The Outreach Centre that provides a safe space and healing services for children and youth in central Alberta who have experienced trauma due to domestic violence, homelessness or suicide. The goal of the Dragonfly Children’s Healing Centre is to enhance the wellbeing of children and youth who have experienced potentially traumatizing events by giving them the opportunity to heal and develop healthy skills and behaviors.
According to Finley’s mom Jonelle, “This year Finley decided that she has enough toys and didn’t need to receive anymore, so she decided to ask for a donation for those in need instead.”
Finley was able to donate $190 that will go towards the programs and services offered through The Dragonfly Children’s Healing Centre.
